Penghu Magong Residence
Design Objectives and Concepts
Based on the owner's requirements, the design aims to create a building that combines functional living spaces with aesthetic appeal and local characteristics of Penghu. The site is located on a street corner, with the main entrance facing the east road and parking access from the north road. The complete architectural form is showcased at the street corner, becoming a prominent image of the residence and responding to the urban corner space. The ground floor features a courtyard, water pool, and open voids, providing rich variations and permeability between indoor and outdoor spaces, as well as vertical levels. This design ensures ample natural light, ventilation, and privacy required for residential functionality.
Massing Description
The street corner's transparency is echoed with a wooden lattice, creating a courtyard for the living room that balances permeability and privacy while reducing oppressive feelings, thus creating a humane and welcoming scale at the street level. The third-floor massing steps back, allowing for usable outdoor platforms and adding variation to the appearance.
Form Description
The design initially begins with a nine-grid layout to quickly organize and allocate spatial functions. However, various spatial design techniques break the rigid grid, connecting the interior spaces with the external urban environment through intersecting tube-like masses, which completely break away from the original nine-grid concept.
Color and Texture Description
The exterior wall materials and colors follow a warm and light color palette. Main materials include light yellow tinted concrete, light brown and light pink coatings, silver-gray metal roof panels, hollow concrete blocks, and brown original wood, expressing a warm and inviting texture. Under the sun of Penghu, the building exhibits rich variations in light and shadow, showcasing the unique characteristics of Penghu's environment.
